Now I understand that it had very little to do with casting. I can't imagine what it's like for tenor roles, which is VERY close to mezzo placement. I'm a singer and my range and talent was soprano range (Cosette) when I was younger and now matches the mezzo range (Fantine, Eponine) and either way 10 hours of singing hurts, but what I've noticed is the mezzo range causes far longer lasting problems after long term use.
